Scratch usually means the bow is exceeding the string's workable balance of weight, speed, and contact point.

On an open string in the middle bow, keep contact point fixed and reduce added pressure until the sound clears.
How to check it
The pitch core should become clearer without the sound turning thin or airy.
Stop condition
Stop once three medium bows stay clean; then restore the original note or passage.
