Two notes that seem acceptable separately may still form an unstable interval together.

Tune the structurally stable note first, then add the second note and listen for beating or resonance rather than checking each note independently.
How to check it
The interval settles and resonance increases as beating decreases.
Stop condition
Stop after three stable interval attacks from silence.
What this route cannot tell you
This route can help name an observable violin problem and choose a bounded test. It does not override the learner's current teacher or diagnose an individual player from a webpage.
